About 30 minutes west of Boston, Concord is an attractive town replete with historical attractions. Rural Bedford is a small, residential town adjacent to Concord. Gun battles in 1775 between colonists and British troops in Concord launched the Revolutionary War. Transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau made his home along Concord's Walden Pond in the 19th century, and authors Louisa May Alcott, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Ralph Waldo Emerson lived in Concord.
