South of Boston Guide

South of Boston are several beach towns that make ideal vacation spots. One of the more famous is Plymouth, best known for the Pilgrims settlement and today's Plimoth Plantation museum. Further south are the whaling town of New Bedford, which Herman Melville made reference to in Moby Dick, and Fall River, once home to accused ax murderer Lizzie Borden.

Cranberries are Massachusetts' official fruit and are native to the area.

A collection of historic battleships and submarines in Fall River offers a hands-on lesson in military history.
